Frequently asked questions
How is gross pay estimated?
Regular hours (up to your threshold, 40 by default) are paid at your hourly rate. Hours above the threshold are paid at your rate times the overtime multiplier (1.5 by default). The two are added together for estimated gross pay.
Does this calculate taxes or net pay?
No. This tool estimates gross pay only. It does not calculate taxes, withholdings, deductions, or take-home pay. Net pay depends on your W-4, benefits, and jurisdiction.
Can I change the overtime threshold and multiplier?
Yes. Some jobs have a lower threshold (for example, 8 hours per day in some states) or a higher multiplier (double-time). Adjust both fields to match your agreement, then verify with your employer.
Are breaks subtracted?
Yes. Unpaid break minutes are subtracted from your gross shift time before pay is calculated. Breaks are unpaid by default — do not enter paid breaks.
Why are results called estimates?
Overtime rules, rounding, premiums, shift differentials, and pay-period rules vary widely by employer and jurisdiction. The number here is a starting point, not a guarantee. See the disclaimer.
